EARLY PREGNANCY
 
Take folate/folic acid in the weeks prior to and until the completion of the 12 week/first trimester
 
In NZ it is recommended to have daily iodine supplement due to deficiency of it in the soil
 
Rest as much as possible and try to get enough sleep
 
Eat as healthy and varied diet as tolerated
 
Make contact and arrange first appointment with your chosen LMC (Lead Maternity Carer)
 
Keep stress as reduced as possible
 
Stop all alcohol and smoking and be informed of the safety of any medications you may be taking
 
Contact your LMC if you have any bleeding and/or regular period like pain
 

Keep up activity within reason, stopping if you feel pain or short of breath
